Most guitarists dream of the day when they can stand up on stage with a band and spontaneously play a beautiful solo without having previously rehearsed that solo. However, in order to execute a solo in this way it is crucial to know which scale you must use to fit the given chords in a specific key. This is an extremely complex matter... unless you happen to be a Guitar Mentor user. Auto Scale allows the guitarist to play a beautiful solo which will agree with a wide selection of chords and keys. The Auto Scale feature in Guitar Mentor provides guitarists with an easy to use method which solves thousands of such combinations instantly. To use Auto Scale, proceed as follows:

1. Click on the Auto Scale button, or select Auto Scale from the Options menu.
2. Click on a key in the KEY list box
3. Click on a chord prefix(beginning) in the CHORD PREFIX list box
4. Click on a chord suffix(ending) in the CHORD SUFFIX list box
5. The correct soloing scale appears within the main fingerboard display area.

Now, If you wish to break the scale down into smaller two octave soloing segments, simply click on the Pattern buttons 1, 2 or 3 in the Command Console.

In many cases you will also want to see an image of the selected chord. In the above example we have selected a C Major chord. To view four of the most popular patterns of this chord, click on Chord buttons 1, 2, 3, and 4. Each chord button selection provides you with a different pattern for the selected chord. Refer to the picture below to see one of the four chord selections.

After seeing the chord, just click the Reset button to restore the scale pattern.
